How to Reset an Aspire Standing Desk Base: Error Codes and Solutions
In this article
If your Aspire standing desk base stops responding, displays an error code or no longer moves normally, use the procedure for that exact code. The Aspire controller does not use one generic fix for every problem. E00 calls for a complete reset, while other codes point to excessive use, uneven leg height, an obstruction, a T-Touch event, a high-current condition or a motor connection problem.
This guide follows Burotic's official Aspire installation and troubleshooting manual, February 2026 edition. It applies to the controller and control box documented in that manual. If your controls look different or your product is not an Aspire base, confirm the correct instructions before proceeding.
Quick answer: how to reset an Aspire base
- Clear the full travel path above and below the desk.
- Press and hold the up and down arrow buttons at the same time.
- Keep both buttons pressed while the base lowers completely.
- Wait for the display to show E00, then 22.4, and listen for a light beep.
- Press the up arrow once to activate the motors.
- Test a short upward and downward movement. The base is ready when both legs move together and no code returns.
Do not release the buttons during the lowering sequence. If the procedure is interrupted, the controller will display E00 again and you must restart from the beginning. If you do not hear the beep, make sure the base reached its fully lowered position before pressing the up arrow.
Before troubleshooting the Aspire base
Remove anything that could touch the desk while it moves, including a chair, drawer unit, wall shelf, windowsill, cable bundle or object stored below the top. Keep children and pets away. Stabilize monitors and remove unusually heavy or unbalanced objects if the problem appeared after the workstation load changed.
Inspect the power cable and the visible connections without opening the control box. M1 and M2 are the connections between the two leg motors and the control box. Before unplugging or reseating a connector, disconnect the base from electrical power and wait until the controller screen is completely black. Do not use a damaged cable or force a connector into a port.
The current Aspire standing desk base page is the appropriate product reference. For a complete workstation, also see Burotic's custom standing desk options. Product specifications can change, so use the documentation supplied with your own base when it differs from the manual linked above.
Aspire error codes at a glance
| Code | What it means | First action |
|---|---|---|
| E00 | Reset was incomplete or interrupted | Complete the full two-button reset |
| E01 | Excessive use or duty cycle exceeded | Rest for 20 minutes or disconnect power for 3 minutes |
| E02 | Leg height difference greater than 10 mm | Run the E00 reset |
| E03 | Intelligent overcurrent protection activated | Remove the obstruction, retry, then reset if needed |
| E04 | T-Touch protection activated | Secure the control box horizontally and remove interference |
| E11 / E12 | High current detected on M1 and/or M2 | Correct the load, then reset |
| E21 / E22 | Current is present on M1 and/or M2, but there is no output signal | Check motor connections and cables |
| E31 / E32 | No current on M1 and/or M2 | Check power and motor cables, power-cycle, then reset |
E00: incomplete or interrupted reset
Cause: the reference procedure did not finish. The controller needs the base to reach its fully lowered position before it can activate the motors normally.
Solution: press and hold the up and down arrows simultaneously. Keep holding them until the base is completely lowered. The display should show E00 and then 22.4, followed by a light beep. Press the up arrow once to activate the motors. If you release either arrow too early, start again from the beginning.
The Aspire base has an anti-collision system. If it encounters an obstacle while rising or lowering, it should automatically reverse direction. Remove the obstacle before repeating the reset. Anti-collision protection does not replace the need to clear the travel path.
E01: excessive use protection
Cause: the base has been operated more frequently than its normal duty cycle allows. The control box displays E01 automatically to protect the system.
Solution: stop moving the desk and let it rest for 20 minutes. The manual also permits disconnecting power for 3 minutes and then reconnecting it. Do not repeatedly press the controls during the cooling period. When power is restored, test one short movement. If E01 returns during light, normal use, stop and contact Burotic support.
E02: the two legs are more than 10 mm apart
Cause: the controller has detected a leg height difference greater than 10 mm.
Solution: perform the complete E00 procedure. Keep the path clear and watch both legs as the base lowers. Do not push or pull one side of the desktop to force alignment. If one leg does not move, stop and inspect the M1 and M2 connections before trying again.
E03: intelligent overcurrent protection
Cause: the system detected a current condition that triggered its intelligent overcurrent protection. An object in the lifting range can cause the base to work against resistance.
Solution: look above, below and beside the desk for an object or contact point. Remove it, then try the desk again. If normal movement does not resume, follow the E00 reset procedure. If E03 returns with a clear path and a normal load, stop using the base and request service rather than repeating resets.
E04: T-Touch protection
Cause: T-Touch protection has activated. The official manual directs attention to the control box installation and possible vibration or interference.
Solution: confirm that the control box is firmly mounted in a horizontal position under the desk. Verify that assembly step 7 was completed correctly so the control box cannot vibrate. Remove any object that touches or interferes with it. After correcting the installation, test a short movement. Do not leave the control box loose on the cable tray or desktop.
E11 and E12: high current on M1 or M2
Cause: the controller detected high current on motor connection M1, M2 or both. An uneven or excessive load can make one side work harder.
Solution: inspect the weight distribution. Remove unusually heavy items and avoid concentrating weight on only one side. Redistribute the remaining equipment evenly, then run the E00 reset.
If the load is normal, disconnect the power cable from the control box and wait until the display remains black. Reconnect power and try the desk again. If the same code returns, record whether it is E11 or E12 and contact support with that detail.
E21 and E22: current without an output signal
Cause: current is present on M1 or M2, but the controller receives no output signal from the corresponding motor connection.
If neither leg rises or lowers
Disconnect power. Confirm that both motor cables are fully connected to the control box, then inspect each cable for pinching or visible damage. Correct the connection, restore power and complete the E00 reset while watching the legs.
If the legs are at different heights
The manual provides a diagnostic test: interchange the M1 and M2 connections and observe whether the error changes. If E21 becomes E22, or E22 becomes E21, the corresponding motor is probably defective. This test identifies the likely side; it is not a repair. Stop using the desk and contact support with the before-and-after codes.
E31 and E32: no current on M1 or M2
Cause: the controller detects no current on motor connection M1, M2 or both.
Solution: verify that the power cable is working and that every motor cable is firmly connected to the control box. Inspect the cables for visible damage, crushing or indentation. Disconnect the control-box power cable and wait until the screen is completely black. Reconnect power, then perform the E00 reset.
Do not substitute an unapproved motor, control box or cable. If a cable is visibly damaged, leave the base unplugged until the correct replacement or service recommendation is confirmed.
What to do after a successful reset
Test a short movement upward and downward before travelling through the full range. Both legs should move together, the display should remain stable and no error code should return. Check that power, motor and controller cables have enough controlled slack at sitting and standing heights.
If your saved heights need to be entered again, use the standing desk memory preset guide. Review the standing desk cable management guide if a cable was pulled, pinched or disconnected during movement.
When to stop troubleshooting
- A code returns after its documented solution and one correct E00 reset.
- One leg remains stationary, the desk stays uneven or a motor makes an unusual mechanical sound.
- A plug, cable or connector is cut, crushed, hot, discoloured or exposes conductors.
- The control box smells unusual, the desk moves without a command or power repeatedly cuts out.
Before contacting support, photograph the controller code, the control-box label and the M1/M2 connections. Note what the desk was doing when the code appeared and whether swapping M1 and M2 changed E21 to E22 or the reverse. Those details make the diagnosis faster and more precise.
The key is to correct the cause first and use E00 only when the manual calls for a reset. That approach protects the Aspire base and avoids clearing a warning without solving the underlying problem.
